Ismaning (Germany) and Cheadle Hulme (UK), 7th October 2008 – Willtek Communications today introduced the new 2201 ProLock, a small communication test set for GSM and WCDMA terminals. ProLock is designed for retailers and repair shops to check returned phones und carry out small repairs. The first units are already shipping to customers.
2201 ProLock is an important part of a system for the testing of GSM and UMTS phones and data cards. The instrument, along with an antenna coupler, a shielding chamber and special software for easy operation, make up a complete test solution as stipulated by handset manufacturers for accepting warranty claims. A few leading phone vendors have already approved ProLock for handset warranty services.
Product manager Matthias Schuster is responsible for the introduction of Willtek’s ProLock: “The 2201 ProLock is the successor of the successful series 4100 and 4200 instruments from Willtek that are deployed in so many small and medium-size repair shops. The handy tester marks a new generation that is required for today’s wireless terminals, most of which are WCDMA-enabled”.
In recent years, repair centres have consolidated regionally. As a consequence, customers are waiting longer for a check and repair of their mobile phones. Also, mobile phones needing smaller repairs and those with no trouble found have become more expensive to service due to the required logistics. With the ProLock, retailers and repair shops can locally check the end user complaint, repair if possible and claim warranty expenses with the manufacturer. Customers will know immediately if their phones are defective.
Large service centres are now using WCDMA-enabled test equipment. Smaller repair shops, however, are limited to GSM technology because there was no affordable test set available until now. With the introduction of Willtek’s ProLock, these repair shops will be able to handle warranty claims for UMTS phones as well.
